Starting System
Awesome tag line here.

The starting system converts electrical energy to mechanical energy to turn the engine.

Engines in this series use solenoid shift starters.

System Components

Battery

Provides electricity to run the starter

NOTICE

Battery must be tested and confirmed acceptable prior to troubleshooting starter system. Follow battery or OEM battery testing procedures.

Starter Solenoid

Uses drive pinion to rotate flywheel and crank engine. Once engine starts, starter solenoid is deativated and drive pinion is retracted.

WARNING

If engine develops sufficient speed to disengage starter but does not keep running (a false start), engine rotation must be allowed to come to a complete stop before attempting to restart engine.

If starter is engaged while flywheel is rotating, starter pinion and flywheel ring gear may clash and damage starter.
